Autumn colour was so beautiful, just now some trees are bare and others are like a beacon of light and the fir trees just keep smiling.  Already sparkling in the frost this morning and soon they’ll look lovely with a dusting of snow on their dark green needles and the Christmas spirit will take over.  At least I hope that’s the way it’s going to be, powdery snow can turn into a slush very quickly and snow might look exciting as the first flakes flutter down but it wrecks plans, events cancelled, roads dangerous and chilblains biting and the gritters will be out on certain roads and the usual controversy of which roads are and which roads aren’t.   But that’s life!

It’s funny how different people look at winter, some love it others dread it, like the Super Moon  Monday night Tuesday morning last week,  “What so super about it, just looked like the moon to me.”  “Didn’t look, I knew it was going to be cloudy.” “Too cold to go outside.”

I got into the car and went looking for it, found it on the road to Carrickfergus but got an even better view at about 7.30 from the back garden.  The neighbours were out and we had a lovely time passing the binoculars between us, one little boy marvelling that the moon was moving so quickly!  I could see what he meant, if you concentrated on the little clouds whizzing past it looks as if  the moon  was dashing across the sky and going no where.

Then came the call of nature at about 4.30 a.m. and my goodness, the moon was huge.  Grabbed the camera and went into the garden, the birds were singing such was the brightness and it was still and glorious.  There was intermittent cloud cover which only enhanced the view, there were rays coming from behind them and a lunar rainbow gave an amazing display of colour.  This is my picture, I know it isn’t very good but I was pleased with it and it reminds me of that little oasis of calm just before five in the morning.

We talked a lot about his work in both his native Newry and in Dublin and how he as travelled to India and Africa to work with communities there.

His book “Caritas et Amor, In the Footsteps of Love” is to be published after Christmas and he was celebrating because the funds had been gathered to pay for the publication which means that all profits will be going to maintain his school in Nigeria.  It will be a book well worth the reading and it will be a joy to read as Rowan has a wonderful turn of phrase and can paint a vivid picture with his words.

His heart lies at  St Mary’s Primary and Secondary School,  located in the African country of Nigeria.  There are no towns or cities in the area and tarred roads do not exist; the landscape is rough and extreme.  The primary school opened in May 2008 and the secondary school admitted its first group of students in September 2010.  The school has been built through the combined efforts of Fr. Donall Cathain, a young SMA priest from Cork and Rowan with  a range of sponsors in Newry and throughout Ireland.  And this work by Rowan was recently recognised.

In a recent article Newry Rambles, he writes:

It is with the greatest joy, humility and enthusiasm that I accept the invitation of the Most Rev Dr Bulus Yohanna, of the Apostolic Vicariate of Kontagora, Nigeria to become the Honorary Ambassador in Ireland and beyond, for the children of our Saint Mary’s Schools Project. Together we have built three schools and the work continues.
For ten years now I have been writing the story of the people and their priest, Father Donall O’Cathain SMA, and their medical and teaching Sisters of the Order, Our Lady of the Apostles.

Sometimes people laugh at me when I tell them there is great poverty in Northern Ireland. They simply don’t believe it. But, as Bob Stronge from AdviceNI told me a couple of weeks ago, so many people are one pay cheque away from the dole and a couple of pay cheques away from loosing their homes. Why? Because, since the downturn the economy nine years ago, austerity has hit big time. Definition of austerity? Difficult economic conditions created by government measures to reduce public expenditure. And boy have they done a good job. Families who were coping well paying their bills, saving a little and spending wisely now find money doesn’t stretch, relationships are strained, savings have gone and in some cases, jobs have gone to.
Where do you turn? The priorities are a roof over your head and of course, food on the table. This is why food banks have become a necessity in modern life, a facility to help people through an emergency until they get sorted out.
Last week the Trussell Trust, a charity that runs a network of over 400 food banks across the UK – 37 in Northern Ireland – where thirteen million people live below the poverty line, published shocking statistics showing that the use of food banks in NI has risen by 48 per cent to reach record levels, with 25,755 three day emergency food supplies provided to people in crisis in the 2015/16 financial year, compared to 17,425 the previous year.
Trussell Trust data shows that, unlike many other areas of the UK, here low income remains the primary cause of food bank use.
I visited the Carnmoney Presbyterian Church food bank at Newtownabbey where I met Carolyn Arnold and volunteer of seven years, Mina McKinney who was stocking the shelves in the nearby store. Across the road, is the bright little office cum shop situated in the church premises, open Mondays 2 p.m. until. 4pm and Wednesdays 6.30 p.m. and 8.30 p.m.
Carolyn explained that for those needing food it’s necessary to first obtain a voucher available in medical practices, churches, schools, and from social workers plus a number of other outlets. On presenting these to the volunteers at the food bank they will receive a bag packed carefully with a mixed and healthy diet, tins and packets for one, two and three to four people for three days. Cereal, soup, beans, rice pudding, biscuits, coffee, tea bags, UHT milk are just a few of the items in the bag. When there are children in the family they will probably find a little extra treat just for them. Not only food, some bags contained nappies, washing powder, toilet rolls and toiletries – these lists have been carefully thought out so people can live a decent lifestyle during this emergency time. Even cat and dog food in included and vegetarians are catered for. Coming up to Christmas the packages will contain seasonal treats, shortbread, selection boxes, makeup for ladies and toy gift for a child.
Mina has seen people in a desperate state; one woman who came for help told her she could only afford a pack of four chops, one for each of her three children, the forth for her husband and she had soup. “The children always come first and the mum is the last to think of herself.”
What started as a church project with the congregation bringing goods for families and specifically for Women’s Aid where member of that charity came to collect the food to protect their clients such is the level of confidentiality, has grown. The non-perishable food is received and recorded, weighed and checked for use-by dates then stacked on the shelves. Using a request sheet, plastic bags are filled and distributed. No one is turned away and although they leave with food for the family, they also leave with advice, friendship and hope.
Carolyn explained that since it was established in April last year, 1957 adults and 1626 children have visited the bright shop in the church to chat and receive help.
The Carnmoney Presbyterian Church food bank has three satellite banks, Ballyclare Presbyterian, Abbots Cross Presbyterian and Greencastle Methodist all in partnership with the Trussell Trust. Over 100 volunteers collect, package and distribute but there are many more people working behind the scenes baking and making, a wide variety of items to make those emergency days less traumatic and to keep families together.
Why do people need food banks? Poverty through loss of earnings, illness, family breakups and debt problems are common; there at the Newtownabbey centre as in other areas, people can get practical help with someone like Carolyn contacting Citizens Advice Centres on their behalf or the local MLA to get things moving.
“When you’re rock bottom you need guidance,” she added: “This is not charity we are all getting together to help people who are going through a hard time, it could be anyone of us any day.”
The public are generous, schools donate, harvest festivals have provided produce, young and old realise the importance of giving. Shops too, especially Tesco branches who have a the permanent collection point at Tesco, Northcott, “Tesco also gives us a 30 per cent top-up in money on all the food collected in their store.”
Carolyn explains the importance of confidentially. It’s a sensitive subject, there is often a stigma and those running food banks round the country do all they can to protect their clients against criticism or accusations of sponging. “Most people are genuine and we soon know if someone is abusing the system. Our aim is protecting the dignity of those who come to us, to make them feel loved and cared for and we want to show God’s love, we offer a prayer if it’s wanted, it’s all a balance and a need we have to meet.”

For a time he will bring about a false peace, but “Therefore when you see the ‘abomination of desolation,’ spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place (Matthew 24:15)…then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the world until this time, no, nor ever shall be” (Matthew 24:21).

    More importantly, the power that runs the world wants to put a RFID microchip in our body making us total slaves to them. This chip matches perfectly with the Mark of the Beast in the Bible, more specifically in Revelation 13:16-18:

    “He causes all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hand or on their foreheads, and that no one may buy or sell except one who has the mark or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.

    Here is wisdom. Let him who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man: His number is 666.”

    Referring to the last days, this could only be speaking of a cashless society, which we have yet to see, but are heading towards. Otherwise, we could still buy or sell without the mark amongst others if physical money was still currency. This Mark couldn’t be spiritual because the word references two different physical locations. If it was spiritual it would just say in the forehead. RFID microchip implant technology will be the future of a one world cashless society containing digital currency. It will be implanted in the right-hand or the forehead, and we cannot buy or sell without it. Revelation 13:11-18 tells us that a false prophet will arise on the world scene doing miracles before men, deceiving them to receive this Mark. Do not be deceived! We must grow strong in Jesus. AT ALL COSTS, DO NOT TAKE IT!

    “Then a third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, “If anyone worships the beast and his image, and receives his mark on his forehead or on his hand, he himself shall also drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out full strength into the cup of His indignation. He shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb. And the smoke of their torment ascends forever and ever; and they have no rest day or night, who worship the beast and his image, and whoever receives the mark of his name” (Revelation 14:9-11).

    People have been saying the end is coming for many years, but we needed two key things. One, the Third Temple, and two, the technology for a cashless society to fulfill the prophecy of the Mark of the Beast.

    We all know God exists. Why? Because without Him, we couldn’t prove anything at all. Do we live our lives as if we cannot know anything? No. So why is God necessary? In order to know anything for certain, you would have to know everything, or have revelation from somebody who does. Who is capable of knowing everything? God. So to know anything, you would have to be God, or know God.

    A worldview without God cannot account for the uniformity and intelligibility of nature. And why is it that we can even reason that God is the best explanation for this if there is no God? We are given reason to know or reject God, but never to know that He does not exist.

    God so loved the world that He gave us His only begotten son, so that whoever believes in Him, through faith, shall not perish, but have everlasting life. Jesus says if we wish to enter into life to keep the commands! The two greatest commands are to love God with all your heart, soul, strength, and mind; and your neighbor as yourself. All the law hang on these commands. We must be born of and lead by the Holy Spirit, to be called children of God, to inherit the kingdom. If we are willing to humble ourselves in prayer to Jesus, to confess and forsake our sins, He is willing to give the Holy Spirit to those who keep asking of Him; giving us a new heart, leading us into all truth!

    Jesus came to free us from the bondage of sin. The everlasting fire was prepared for the devil and his angels due to disobedience to God’s law. If we do the same, what makes us any different than the devil? Jesus says unless we repent, we shall perish. For sin is the transgression of the law. We must walk in the Spirit so we may not fulfill the lusts of the flesh, being hatred, fornication, drunkenness and the like. Whoever practices such things will not inherit the kingdom (Galatians 5:16-26). If we sin, we may come before Jesus to ask for forgiveness (1 John 2:1-2). Evil thoughts are not sins, but rather temptations. It is not until these thoughts conceive and give birth by our own desires that they become sin (James 1:12-15). When we sin, we become in the likeness of the devil’s image, for he who sins is of the devil (1 John 3:8); but if we obey Jesus, in the image of God. For without holiness, we shall not see the Lord (Hebrews 12:14).

    The oldest religion in the world is holiness through faith (James 1:27). What religion did Adam and Eve follow before the fall? Jesus, Who became the last Adam, what religion does He follow? Is He not holy? He never told us to follow the rituals and traditions of man but to take up our cross and follow Him (Luke 9:23). There are many false doctrines being taught leading people astray.
