SUNDAY BLOG: WHAT’S IT ALL ABOUT?

New phone, new year, bad cold and hungry.  Been sitting over this new fangled iPhone which I don’t really understand, found ‘contacts’ and have spent the last hour going through and sadly deleting people who have died.  The transfer from my Asda £24 phone to this new-to-me gismo has revealed people and numbers from my past – I think they were stored away on a cloud and have now been dragged down into the present day – interesting but as I say, sad.  What has happened to telephones?  I just want to make and receive calls, send and receive texts but now I get a ding and news headlines come up, I know the climate all over the world you name it and this telephone can tell you all about it.  And somewhere someone knows all about me, where I am, what I’m doing, my likes and dislikes.  Not sure about this, might have to strike off all these ‘apps’ and get back to basics.  But I must say, it’s really fascinating and I suspect once I get the hang of it I might even become friends with it!  I certainly like the camera, that is a major plus.

TURNING OVER A NEW LEAF

Last week New Year’s Day was a time for thinking of the lovely things that happened in 2018 and I hope you had lots of happy things to recall although I know that won’t be the case for many who have had sadness and trauma during the last 12 months.

Little things are important for instance, if  I’d a penny for every time I chased a rainbow I’d be quite rich but I always failed to catch one, There it is right in front of you bowing across the road and you think I”ll drive right underneath the beautiful arch no problem, and then it shifts, you chase it and shifts again so it was never to be, although I saw parts of the countryside I’d never have seen if I hadn’t gone on my impossible quest.  Then in October I struck the pot of gold.  The rain had been teeming down and the road from Enniskillen to Belfast was still wet and the cars were throwing up spray.  I was driving behind a large van, the surface water was reaching quite a height when suddenly the sun hit it and there in front of me was the perfect rainbow and suddenly I was in the midst of  shimmering iridescent colours in front, behind and on each side, it was just as beautiful as I imagined.  How often does that happen?  Right place right time – result.

Phenomenal Woman

Well Met In Howard Street

I met four smashing women a couple of months ago and they really cheered me up on a dank day and made a memory when I was standing waiting for a colleague for over 40 minutes.  The girls were pulling cases on wheels and laughing as they made their way up Howard Street on their way to their hotel and a night out on the town. In more ways than ever people are doing it for themselves, voices are being heard, the grass roots are sprouting, women’s groups, men’s sheds, young people working for charities.  And volunteers everywhere.  They are all shining examples to those in authority who just bicker and back bite and get no where fast.

The end of another year.

So much to look back on but really it’s a time to look forward, to make plans and projects, set goals and remain positive.  Encourage family and friends and be a rainbow in someone’s life.  What will this year hold?  Who knows and is there any point in surmising?  One thing I hope will happen is that restaurants will realise a lot of people want a variety of dishes on the menu including tasty vegetarian and vegan offerings.  I recently went to one of our top class restaurants and had to settle for two side dishes, vegetables and a house salad as there was nothing else on offer – I think there was something spicy but again that isn’t good for my digestive system.  At least it was a cheap meal!
