One of the highlights of last week was visiting the Grand Opera House to see The Trocks. It’s often said that theatre is an illusion yet no matter how often you see this unique ballet company, you’ll be mesmerised and entertained and you’ll wonder at the magic. We’re used to sylphlike young ballerinas floating en pointe, slim and beautiful and a joy to watch but sylphlike young male ballet dancers floating en pointe, slim and handsome? Well, they too are a sheer delight and, because in this company they inject comedy into their routines, hilarious too.
Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo are famous the world over and the Grand Opera House has been booked out for months. Twenty minutes in my friend whispered: “I thought there were men in the company.” Indeed it was hard to believe we weren’t watching females in tights and tutus, perfect makeup and beautiful costumes.
What a mixed audience, many men who around me who were consumed with laughter, women and girls, some children all smiling and enthusiastic as we filtered out of the auditorium at the interval.
Although the Trocks bring great humour to their performance, they respect traditional ballet, their choreography is based on Russian dance, strict and disciplined yet they interpret their roles with priceless facial expressions, a turn of the head, a flick of the wrist, a sway of the hips all timed to perfection. The corps de ballet may well topple like dominos and it’s funny, when a dancer enters stage left and makes an exaggerated slip and lands on her bottom, we gasp in concern – again it’s a well rehearsed hiccup. It’s the art of the unexpected.
Every member of the company is a character with a long Russian type name. We were sad to hear that one of the company wouldn’t be appearing – Natasha Notgoodenough. There’s the red head who is full of mischief, a tall opinionated ballerina in a lavender tutu who plays shamelessly to the audience, the prima ballerina who amazes with her dance but lets us know she’s disappointed in the lack of support from her partner. Then came the sequence we were waiting for, the Dying Swan from Swan Lake, music by Tchaikovsky and we weren’t disappointed. Robert Carter milked it for all its worth, feathers flying as he portrayed a really unwell bird and we loved it.
It’s not all classical, there’s some modern dance too a superb piece of Micky taking after the fashion of Merce Cunningham and live music out of a shopping bag as in the John Cage tradition.
The final offering, Paquita, was serious compared to the rest of the programme, a chance to see the skills of these young men – ballerinas from their spidery eye lashes to their well manicured fingertips, but ballerinas with something extra.
As their grand finale they spread across the stage, and as we clapped and cheered, the familiar stirring of Riverdance filtered through the theatre and The Trocks gave us a performance as never seen before, even the dry ice was excited.
Thank you Trocks and all involved for something very different and very uplifting.
The Stage Is Set
Behind every successful man there’s an amazing woman. True? Certainly in the formative years of Queen’s Festival when that woman was Betty Craig. As assistant director she worked with the maestro, Michael Barnes. He had the vision and she made that vision work.

However, one memorable night would not have happened if Betty hadn’t challenged her boss. She wanted the Brendan Voyage for the Whitla Hall.
Michael disagreed. She tried again, again rejection. Eventually he tired and told her – go ahead but on your head be it.
It was a night to remember, Shaun Davey’s major orchestral suite with Liam O’Flynn on uilleann pipes playing out the story of St. Brendan’s voyage in a small curragh from the Kerry coast to the shores of North America. It was emotional as we listened to the storms and rough seas pound the little boat and the peaceful relief when it reached its destination. Talk about cry!
When she retired in the mid 80s Betty thought she’d have time to relax. No chance.
“I got a phone call from Brum Henderson at Ulster Television. ‘So you think you’ve retired, well you haven’t, come and see me in the morning.’ Suddenly I was in at the deep end, this time setting up the first Telethon, a 27 hour programme where each region in the network took part in this fund raising extravaganza.” Since then she has been a major fundraiser for hospitals, music therapy and setting up the Children’s Cancer Fund.
But Michael was always in her life, he was head of his festival family, she’d be there to cook turkey at Christmas, always in the mix. When he died in 2008, he left a note asking Betty to organise a party, held in Queen’s Film Theatre now celebrating 50 important years.
What a life Betty has had and, with Michael and Jan, her hard work ensures a firm foundation for Festival now and in the future.
At a vibrant 92 she looks back. “It was magical, I lived every moment and as I walked through Botanic Gardens each morning on my way to the Festival office, I thanked God for my job.”

Biblical prophecy tells us that this Jewish Messiah who will take the stage will be the antichrist “who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God” (2 Thessalonians 2:4). For a time he will bring about a false peace, but “Therefore when you see the ‘abomination of desolation,’ spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place (Matthew 24:15)…then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the world until this time, no, nor ever shall be” (Matthew 24:21).
More importantly, the power that runs the world wants to put a RFID microchip in our body making us total slaves to them. This chip matches perfectly with the Mark of the Beast in the Bible, more specifically in Revelation 13:16-18:
“He causes all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hand or on their foreheads, and that no one may buy or sell except one who has the mark or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.
Here is wisdom. Let him who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man: His number is 666.”
Referring to the last days, this could only be speaking of a cashless society, which we have yet to see, but are heading towards. Otherwise, we could still buy or sell without the mark amongst others if physical money was still currency. This Mark couldn’t be spiritual because the word references two different physical locations. If it was spiritual it would just say in the forehead. RFID microchip implant technology will be the future of a one world cashless society containing digital currency. It will be implanted in the right-hand or the forehead, and we cannot buy or sell without it. Revelation 13:11-18 tells us that a false prophet will arise on the world scene doing miracles before men, deceiving them to receive this Mark. Do not be deceived! We must grow strong in Jesus. AT ALL COSTS, DO NOT TAKE IT!
“Then a third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, “If anyone worships the beast and his image, and receives his mark on his forehead or on his hand, he himself shall also drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out full strength into the cup of His indignation. He shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb. And the smoke of their torment ascends forever and ever; and they have no rest day or night, who worship the beast and his image, and whoever receives the mark of his name” (Revelation 14:9-11).
People have been saying the end is coming for many years, but we needed two key things. One, the Third Temple, and two, the technology for a cashless society to fulfill the prophecy of the Mark of the Beast.

If we are willing to humble ourselves in prayer to Jesus, to confess and forsake our sins, He is willing to give the Holy Spirit to those who keep asking of Him; giving us a new heart, leading us into all truth!
Jesus came to free us from the bondage of sin. The everlasting fire was prepared for the devil and his angels due to disobedience to God’s law. If we do the same, what makes us any different than the devil? Jesus says unless we repent, we shall perish. For sin is the transgression of the law. We must walk in the Spirit so we may not fulfill the lusts of the flesh, being hatred, fornication, drunkenness and the like. Whoever practices such things will not inherit the kingdom (Galatians 5:16-26). If we sin, we may come before Jesus to ask for forgiveness (1 John 2:1-2). Evil thoughts are not sins, but rather temptations. It is not until these thoughts conceive and give birth by our own desires that they become sin (James 1:12-15). When we sin, we become in the likeness of the devil’s image, for he who sins is of the devil (1 John 3:8); but if we obey Jesus, in the image of God. For without holiness, we shall not see the Lord (Hebrews 12:14).
The oldest religion in the world is holiness through faith (James 1:27). What religion did Adam and Eve follow before the fall? Jesus, Who became the last Adam, what religion does He follow? Is He not holy? He never told us to follow the rituals and traditions of man but to take up our cross and follow Him (Luke 9:23). There are many false doctrines being taught leading people astray. This is why we need the Holy Spirit for discernment. Unlike religion, holiness cannot be created. It is given to us from above by the baptism of the Spirit. Jesus is more than a religion; He is about having a personal relationship with the Father. Start by reading the Gospel of Matthew, to hear the words of God, to know His character and commandments.
