Does he have good-luck charms to ensure a good performance? “I’m not superstitious but I always put my right shoe on first.” he told me. “I collect lapel pins but my friends say I actually collect people! Everywhere we go I know someone and they are always welcoming and I know it will be the same in Belfast.”
It’s a tough life, physically draining but Jack shares his down time between Leitrim and New York, indeed such is the pull to Ireland that he has been back here seven times since January.
I can’t recommend this show highly enough, the Dying Swan has to be seen to be believed. What a night out it is, superb, funny, real classical ballet danced by highly trained and talented male dancers.

Clocks Falling Back
I think of my Dad this morning and the times he would forget about changing the clock, turning up to have a cup of coffee because he had arrived at church an hour early. Usually the coffee came after church, such beautiful and memorable Sunday mornings just to sit and chat and see him so well and upright during those years. My other memory is yet to come. For years he was given the honour of laying the wreath in church at Remembrance Sunday service. How proud he was, despite how he was feeling he was ramrod straight during the two minute Silence even at 92. After that morning he told me it would be the last time, he just knew it wouldn’t be possible again and it wasn’t. Although he died at 98 the last six years were spent in a nursing home where he and I would watch the television coverage. He still drew himself up as best he could during the Silence.
That poppy means so much to so many of us, children who’s father’s and mother’s fought and won and passed on the pride and the standards of that generation. And now the powers that be are throwing it all away to go it alone without even getting it sorted in a dignified way. Shameful.
