The last week has been somewhat earth shattering. Watching the American media coverage of the grilling of  FBI past director Comey was riviting and surely we saw the setting up of impeachment process getting that bit nearer – and the election! Good grief, both essential viewing. Sick to death as we were with Mrs. May grinding on about the forthcoming Brexit, as the results came in on Thursday evening and Friday morning you could see the hot air escaping and leaving her flat.  But was it necessary to have blanket coverage on BBC and ITV for two days – I was longing for a proper news bulletin away from the election but I didn’t get it. Nothing but election and of the two stations ITV certainly topped the BBC.

Now we wait to see what will happen as May courts Foster and Farage sits on the side lines gloating and ready to pounce. I smiled to myself when I mis-read a small headline in the Express – Tiny Party Become The Powerbrokers. My eyes saw – Tiny Party Become The Pawnbrokers! Maybe not such a mistake at the end of the day!

Dr. Mainie, consultant physician and gastroenterologist, explained that, at the moment oesophageal cancer patients are undergoing a number of surgical procedures to remove the tumour from their gullet, the tube that transfers food from the throat to the stomach, however, with this new technique the benefit is that an early cancer can be removed in one piece and patients could be discharged within 24 to 48 hours.
The procedure, which requires a high level of expertise, is carried out through an ‘endoscope’, this gives a view inside the body and is guided into place via the mouth.
“The data from the hospital in Japan shows the survival rates for these patients are better, I’m hopeful that the public will see the promise and benefits by having this equipment available for the first time in Ireland.” He adds the exciting news is that this technique can be used in early rectal and stomach cancers as well, therefore avoiding major surgery. So, with ongoing research, equipment such as the ERBE V103 and professionals like Dr. Mainie and his colleagues, the future looks more hopeful than ever but, it’s important to remember we can all take a hand in our own wellbeing by cutting out the risks.

My mobile phone bill has been twice as much as usual over the last two months. Alert! Down to o2 shop, ‘How’s it going?’ says Mick. ‘Not a bit well.’ says I.
