What a fuss about nothing. Two powerful women with good legs. So what if a newspaper decides to put them on the front page, it grabs the attention and then, read on. It’s the article that accompanied the picture that was the important thing, did they come to any amicable conclusion? Was their talk constructive? Will they ever sort things out to everyone’s satisfaction?

I’m beginning to wonder if April and her baby are an April joke. For weeks now millions have been watching this elegant giraffe April and her young husband Oliver pace their compounds as they wait for their baby to appear. The Animal Adventure Park in New York keep us up to date with bulletins but nothing seems to be happening.
Even as I type I’m watching her pace around, talk to Oliver through the window that separates them and the more I watch the more I hate the fact that they are corralled in such a small area. I know its cold outside, I know they have been bred in captivity I know they couldn’t survive in their native habitat but still, it seems cruel to me to deprive them of freedom to roam and exercise. Anyway, the keepers obviously love the creature, tenderly kissing her baby bump and rubbing her sides. I don’t know about zoos, it’s an amazing thing to see a ‘wild’ animal in captivity, to see a real elephant, the size of it, the swing of the trunk and the folds of the skin. The lion, such a docile face but then you see the powerful muscles ripple as it walks – television is no substitute but is it fair?

“Oh darling, wasn’t he gorgeous? He greeted us every morning outside the hotel, Amanda ordered chicken and rice for herself every day and gave it to the pup! And of course my tummy, as I said on the programme, that worries me so much, I hate the way it’s so big I asked Miriam (79 year old Dr. Miriam Stoppard) about it and she thinks it might have something to do with my treatment for prostate cancer.”
“But have you been sticking to the diet you were given at the retreat?
“What diet?”
“You had massages and the gentleman told you to moderate your diet, cut out sweets and chocolate.”
I feel I can talk to him like a mum scolding her naughty son because I played his mother for two memorable summer months in a show we did in Belfast and Dublin and he still rings me on Mother’s Day and every Christmas morning, one of the nicest men I know.

Last burning question. Did Sheila Ferguson establish a long term relationship with the Indian gentleman who took her to dinner? After all, she did admit that she was looking for love!

If we do the same, what makes us any different than the devil? Jesus says unless we repent, we shall perish. For sin is the transgression of the law. We must walk in the Spirit so we may not fulfill the lusts of the flesh, being hatred, fornication, drunkenness and the like. Whoever practices such things will not inherit the kingdom (Galatians 5:16-26). If we sin, we may come before Jesus to ask for forgiveness (1 John 2:1-2). Evil thoughts are not sins, but rather temptations. It is not until these thoughts conceive and give birth by our own desires that they become sin (James 1:12-15). When we sin, we become in the likeness of the devil’s image, for he who sins is of the devil (1 John 3:8); but if we obey Jesus, in the image of God. For without holiness, we shall not see the Lord (Hebrews 12:14).
